Writer : International Administrative Center | Date : 2026.02.27 | Hit : 26

In the Korean higher education system, attendance in classes is very important and counts towards the final grade for most courses, typically 20% of the final grade. Students who have an unauthorised absence rate of 33% or more for a particular class will automatically fail the class.

If you are absent from class due to a valid reason, you can apply for Excused Absence, which would mean that your final grade would not be impacted by that absenceStudents can check their attendance information here

Valid reasons include:

  • Funeral service for an immediate family member
  • Hospitalization or quarantine under government direction
  • Illness
  • One's own marriage
  • Participation in major national events
  • Participation in campus events (with prior approval)
  • For each reason, there is a limit on the number of days that can be excused (see the form for more details)
