Since Woosong University is located near the center of South Korea, there is always something interesting happening, as long as you know where to look. From festivals and cultural events to beautiful sites and unique culinary experiences, they are all within an hour and a half from Woosong.

Daejeon is South Korea’s fifth largest city with a population of about 1.5 million. Daejeon is host to a number of festivals; Cherry Blossom Festival, Gyejoksan Barefoot Festival, and YuSeong Hot Spring Culture Festival to name a few), and attractions; Sky Road, Jangtaesan Mountain Recreational Forest, Expo Park, and Daejeon O-World.

1. Express Bus (Express Bus Terminal)

Daejeon Complex Terminal is located about 20-30 minutes from Woosong University bus stop. Buses are divided into high-end seats with fewer seats and better facilities, and regular seats with more seats and cheaper prices.

Bus Tickets Purchase: Bus tickets can be purchased on online ticketing websites, via mobile apps or directly at ticket offices in bus terminals. Check the platform number of your bus through a monitor or screen in the terminal’s waiting area and then board the bus at that platform. Typically, you can board a bus starting five minutes prior to the time of departure.

2. KTX Train

Daejeon Station is a 20-minute walk from Woosong University. You can buy tickets at the ticket office at Daejeon Station to catch the train or use the mobile app Korail Talk or Let's Korail site.

A traffic card is convenient when using public transportation.

One can take the urban railway, bus, or taxi with this card. Discounts are also offered when one pays with this card instead of cash. In addition, when transferring to a bus, an urban railway, the traffic card must be scanned at the end of each leg of the journey which allows free transfers of up to three times.

There is one urban railway line in Daejeon.

The total length of the track is 20.5 km and there are 22 stations. Travel time for a complete (from one end to the other) journey is 40 min.

Buses are boarded at the front and exited from the door in the midsection.

If using a travel card, scan it over the card reader when boarding and getting off the vehicle. However, in case of cash payment, the front door shall state that it is paid to the transportation agent. The city of Daejeon has developed an intelligent transportation system, which informs the arrival time of the next available bus through a computer monitor installed at each bus stop.

With a free (discount) transfer system in operation in Daejeon, one can transfer up to three times to get to his/her final destination by bus. When transferring to other means of transportation, such as a bus on a regular route or an urban railway, using up to the 4th means of transportation is free. However, a traffic card must be used to transfer.

    • Transfers are available for up to 3 times within 30 min. (60 min. for some routes) after getting off.
  • Free (discount) transfer is not allowed on the same line.
  • The travel card must be scanned at the end of each part of the journey for this to work.

There are regular taxis, light, small, middle, large, and "mobum" luxury taxis.

Daejeon now operates only middle size taxis, call taxis, and large jumbo taxis. There are no taxis which offer translation service, but if you call 1588-5644 (), bbb volunteers are available to assist with translations. These volunteers can help inform the taxi driver of your destination.


Regular Taxis

One may find taxis from the various taxi stations scattered around Daejeon. The current starting fare is 3,300won for the first 2km, and the total fare is calculated by the distance travelled and time taken. A late night rate with a 20% increase of the basic and subsequent fares is applicable from midnight to 4am.

Call-Taxi

A taxi may be ordered to pick up the passengers at a specific place and time without extra charge. There are three call taxi brands, Hanbit, Yangban and Hanbat S, in Daejeon. You can choose one of them.

Daejeon operates a public bicycle program called "Tashu" to promote the use of bicycles.

A Tashu bicycle can be rented from one of the bicycle rentals (kiosk) scattered throughout the city by simply registering for the service with a valid ID. Almost 3,400 Tashu public bicycles are available at approximately 260 rental stops.

Trains in Korea are divided into three kinds: KTX (Korea Train Express), Saemaeul-ho, and Mugunghwa-ho.

Tickets can be purchased from train stations, online, travel agencies, etc. Advanced reservation required for a trip during weekends or holidays.


Daejeon Station

Trains bound for Seoul, Dongdaegu, Busan, Ulsan, and Pohang are available. If the fastest train, KTX, will be used, one can get to Seoul in about 50 min. and Busan in 2.5 hours.

For traveling to Jeolla-do area, you must start from Seodaejeon Station, not Daejeon Station. The high-speed railway (KTX) operates eight on weekdays and nine on holidays.

Cheongju International Airport

The Cheongju International Airport is the closest airport from Daejeon. The airport operates flights to Jeju, China, Japan, etc. An intercity bus bound for the Cheongju International Airport is in service at the Daejeon Terminal Complex.

International Driver's License

An international driver’s license has the same effect as a Korean driver’s license. However, the former is valid in Korea for a year after the date of issuance. Foreigners residing in Korea for more than a year must convert their international driver’s license to a Korean driver’s license.

Converting a Foreign Driver's License into a Korean Driver's License

A foreign driver’s license holder must prepare the required documents, including a letter of confirmation for his/her foreign driver’s license issued by the embassy, and have them screened. Afterward, he/she must pass an aptitude test and a written test to get a Korean driver’s license.

Obtaining a Korean Driver's License

  • There are two types of Korean Driver's Licenses, Type I and II, determined by the type of vehicle driven.
