Master’s in Global and Human Studies

As the world globalizes and digitalizes, there are a growing number of complicated issues that future leaders need to understand and address. Global and Human Studies on-line program focuses on providing an opportunity for future leaders to get to know about current global and human related issues in our society and learn by interacting with students and faculty from various regions in an on-line setting, without having physical space and time limitations. This online course will utilize high quality on-line class materials recorded by a global level of thoughts leaders and scholars, facilitator faculty will lead various discussion sessions and workshops so that students can digest in-depth knowledge and learn various perspectives resulting in developing their own views on each topic.

What makes our program unique?

The interdisciplinary nature of the program emphasizes a broad understanding of global issues, philosophical perspectives, leadership and management strategies. It highlights diverse cultural, social and international cooperation in areas such as sustainability, economics, trade, politics and human behaviour, preparing graduates for leadership roles in an ever-growing globalized world.
Each summer and winter there will also be an optional 7-day Global Leadership Camp which will take place on the Woosong University campus in Daejeon.

Structure

The duration of this program is 1 year (4 semesters) and it is divided into two parts: common required courses and elective courses. The program is made up of a total of 9 courses, totaling 27 credits. There is also a requirement to submit a research paper in the final semester; see the course/credit breakdown below.

Mandatory Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development ▼
Course Description
Being a global citizen suggests that each of us have social, environmental and economic responsibilities on a global scale. This class aims to foster that idea by presenting a variety of ‘difficult’ global topics including elitism, inequality, ethics, democracy, sustainable development, dehumanization and food sovereignty. As well as learning about these topics, students will be encouraged to understand the different perspectives involved, and form their own evidence-based opinions.

Global Flows ▼
Course Description
This course will focus on various globally significant aspects of today’s world, including nationalism and multiculturalism, localization versus globalization, human rights, and the current and future state of humanity. Students will delve into key global topics that will help them understand the world today, and their place in it.

Histories and practices of Development ▼
Course Description
This course will delve into the progress of different aspects of society: big past events that have shaped the world; important current events and developments that change the way we view and understand ourselves; and what the future might look like in years to come. Students will learn how and why the world is as it is today and how its inhabitants are continually questioning their role within that world.

International Cooperation ▼
Course Description
This course aims to illustrate the various relationships at play in this globalized modern world. It will investigate national leadership, politics, changing power relations and power struggles, as well as capitalism and socialism and the potential problems each of them brings. Through this class students will learn about different types of society and the positive and negative aspects associated with them.

International Trade, Finance and Management ▼
Course Description
This course will teach students about trade, finance and management at an international and global level. It will focus on areas such as the meaning of trade, free trade, global trade and trade wars, entrepreneurship, platform companies and making geographical locations economically successful. Students will obtain an overview of international and global trade, finance and management along with an understanding of the associated successes and difficulties.

Building Personal Resilience ▼
Course Description
This course will focus on the brain and ways of thinking. Students will gain an understanding of how people think, delve into the theory of multiple intelligences, and learn how to best use their senses before looking at the science of love and mental health issues such as anxiety, trauma and depression. Students will gain an in depth understanding of how their brain works and learn about ways to train their brain and body to deal with difficult life situations.

Elective Management: The Survival Strategy ▼
Course Description
This course aims to illustrate how to be successful in the modern world. From an individual perspective, it will focus on the strategies that people can employ to live well until an old age, as well as how we can live in a world where artificial intelligence continues to advance and take on many of the roles traditionally undertaken by people. It will also focus on a variety of business types, showing how these businesses became successful and how they continue to thrive. Students will learn how to live and succeed, both on an individual and a business level, as well as how to cope well in an ever-changing world.

Economics in International Affairs ▼
Course Description
This course will review both past and present international economics. After introducing the importance of economics, it will look at the impact of good and bad economic decision making, as well as some real-life past economic disasters and how the world economy is subject to change. This international economics-based course will teach students all about the positive and negative aspects of the economy and money and how they can impact both individual countries and the world.

Global Leadership via Arts-related World Leaders ▼
Course Description
This course will focus on a number of successful individuals in arts-related careers. It will tell their personal stories, following their experiences, positive and negative, to their current success. Not only will students learn about a variety of different life experiences, they will also obtain a greater understanding of the personal commitment and sacrifices it takes to become successful in their chosen career.

The Philosophy of Living ▼
Course Description
This course delves into various topics that encourage self-reflection about both life and the kind of person an individual might want to be. Topics covered include living and dying well, our need for recognition, freedom, love, gender and finding purpose in life. Project Report
  • Students need to complete and submit the project report during the last semester. If required the project can be submitted no later than 2 semesters after the final semester but it must be completed in order to graduate.
  • There will be no tuition fee during the period when students work on the project if they have earned the required 27 credits.
