The Credit Cancellation Period (sometimes referred to as 'Credit Abandonment'
or 'Waiver') for Fall 2023 Semester is from 2023.10.23 (Mon) ~ 2023.10.27 (Fri)
by 16:00.
Credit Abandonment Period is different from Course Drop Period for
Fall 2023 Semester when you can drop a course you are completing this
semester (this will be after the Midterm Exams and will be announced
later).
Students are eligible to cancel up to 9 credit hours from their
record once, from Year 3 onwards. This means that if a students has a
class with a grade of C+ to D (P, F credits cannot be waived), they can apply to have that class’
credit/s cancelled, and the class and grade will no longer appear on their
transcript. This might be helpful if a student is willing to stay at university
longer and try to raise their GPA.
However, there are a number of very important things students
need to take note of.
CAUTION: there could be negative consequences
for cancelling a previous course’s credits so it is important to think about
this very carefully.
Cancelling a previous course may actually lower GPA, reduce credit
hour count, and students may have to pay back a portion of the scholarship (if
they have one). For example, cancelling a class that lowers
credits to below the level required for a scholarship in a particular semester,
or if cancelling the course lowers the GPA to below 2.63, a student might have
to repay part of the scholarship.
Also, cancelling credits will lower the amount of credits gained
for graduation, and this may lead to staying at university for longer and
without a scholarship. Cancelled courses can also not be retaken and the
credits cancelled cannot be reinstated.
It is up to a student to weigh the advantages and disadvantages
when deciding to cancel course credits. Visit the International Administrative
Center (W19 218) and academic departments to get advice about this and instructions
on how to do this. Make sure to review how to calculate your GPA (instructions
below), and see if cancelling a class’ credits would be beneficial or not.
Note: Credit Cancellation applies to students in Year 3 or
higher only. Students can only complete Credit Cancellation once
during their time at Woosong.
Note: If students are considering applying for credit
cancellation, contact the International Administrative Center and academic
departments for more information about the possible consequences.
