On December 1^st, the Media and Communication Arts department held their 7^th annual SIMAfest. This annual film festival is presented by our students and brings together high-quality works produced by them throughout the year. SIMAfest was first introduced in 2015 and has created a precedent of bringing together student filmmakers and media creators from campus. Students are able to come together, talk with others about their films, and learn from each other.

At SIMAfest, we invite famous filmmakers as special lectures and external judges to help evaluate and participate in the festival.  The department has continued to become more and more professional in hosting the event. The video submissions have also been improving every year. This year was also the first year that films outside of the department were accepted. Opening up and accepting works from filmmakers beyond our school provides a broader insight into the industry. Students were able to ask questions to these producers and directors with different backgrounds. 

All attendees were able to hear from Director Giwon Bae(배기원). He talked about how he created the film infrastructure of Daejeon, his previous directing work, and about his opportunities and movie production experiences in Daejeon.

There were three categories awarded this year.  The categories were Woosong Media and Communication Arts Department Videos, External Videos, and a Popularity Video. All videos were screened and judged by professors and a few select external judges.  The top three videos in each category were recognized. The top three winners for each category are:

We are very proud to bring together many talented artists and provide a place for them to share their work and have their films seen on the “big screen.”
