South Korea will conduct its first nationwide civil defense drill in six years on 2023.08.23 (Wed) at 14:00 KST.

Many students will have received notices via SMS about this and the media has been reporting on this. This is just a drill, and it is only for 15 minutes. If you have lived in Korea for a while, this is nothing new. You can read more about it in this article from the Korean Herald.

If you are outside, you will be required to go inside a building or into a shelter. If you are driving, you will be required to pull off to the right of the road until the drill is over. Subway exits will also be shut down, and you are required to stay underground until the drill is over. 

Don't be surprised if you see the streets or the campus are empty around 14:00 today. It is just a drill, but as guests in the Republic of Korea we should follow local customs and laws.
