Merit-Based Scholarship Update 첨부파일

Writer : IAC | Date : 2023.06.28 | Hit : 2,270

Soon the final grades for Spring 2023 Semester will be announced, so many students may have queries about the Merit-based Scholarship Policy for international students here in Korea. There is no change to the policy from previous semesters, this is just to update new students about the policy.

Students can get anywhere from 30% right up to 100% of their tuition fee paid by scholarship, based on their GPA in the previous semester or cumulative GPA (CGPA), whichever is higher. There are a few things for students to note:

- Students must have enrolled student status, both in the previous and current semester

- Students are eligible for a scholarship only in their first eight semesters and are not eligible for a scholarship once they are in excess semesters

- Students must have a minimum 15-credit load of courses (excluding short Winter/Summer semesters) with no "F" grades in any courses

- Students are not eligible if all courses are P/F type and students must reach the minimum GPA/CGPA of 3.00 or higher

- Scholarships are tuition-based only. There is no financial aid available for cost of living expenses, like dormitory, meal plans, books, medical insurance, student activity fees, and other living expenses. These other costs are not covered by Admissions or Merit-based scholarships and these expenses are borne by applicants.

For more information, check out the information here (or if you are from JCFS here). The attached documents provide a summary of the policy. For help calculating your GPA, see below:

Korea also has a system of providing 'labor scholarships' for students. This system provides a scholarship in exchange for work on the university campus. This means that even students who do not meet the criteria for a merit-based scholarship may be able to get a scholarship in exchange for work. For international students, opportunities are available via Sol Green Police, dormitory resident assistants and in administrative offices, so watch out for opportunities as they arise.
