From December 2023 to May 2024, nine students had the opportunity to represent Woosong University and participate in the 2nd Business Plan Competition in Jeju hosted by the Silicon Valley Business Forum in collaboration with the AMENA Center at UC Berkeley. The Business Plan Competition is held annually as a sister event of The International Electric Vehicle Expo.

The students, acting as entrepreneurs, had to come up with a business idea from scratch, develop strategies to break into the market and present their findings to judges. Under the guidance of mentors, Professors Hayder Albayati and Ahunov Muzzaffarjon from Endicott College, the students went through a careful selection process. This resulted in the formation of four teams: Blue Pill, an AI-based HR hiring platform; CarTabie Vegan Food; Oori Chingu, a platform for university students to build community; and Healthy Tako, a fitness platform; which all competed against other universities with full support from Woosong University.

Our participants, all undergraduates, competed against peers from various universities across South Korea, including undergraduates, master's, and Ph.D. students. Despite the short preparation time, CarlTabie Vegan Food secured 3rd place among the 11 participating teams. Woosong student, Lunga Thabath, the team leader of CarlTabie Vegan Food shares her experience.

“The entire process of being part of the Silicon Valley Business Competition itself was such an outstanding learning experience, that provided me with some priceless insights from the prominent people on the judge panel and committee. What I learned is that, the real prize of winning a startup competition is the network you build, the lessons you learn, and the doors that open as a result of your success. On that note, the prize is not the competition win; it’s the evidence of your vision, your hard work, and your ability to stand out in a crowded field. It’s the proof that you have what you need to turn your dreams into reality.”

Congratulations to all participants, we are proud of the teams for representing Woosong University well!
